Forum: Grow the Urban Forest

A resilient urban forest helps residents thrive. Trees on public and private land are a vital part of city infrastructure and provide environmental, social, economic, and health benefits. But our tree canopy in Philadelphia is declining and the canopy we have is not spread equitably across our neighborhoods.

Climate change will increase the heat island effect, where Philadelphia neighborhoods with the lowest number of trees are already on average 22 degrees hotter than others.

Philadelphia must invest in growing our tree canopy through the Philly Tree Plan.
