Tools for Heroes: Philly Pumptrack/Parkside Evans

The Philadelphia Parks Alliance and Keep Philadelphia Beautiful teamed up with Lowe’s to provide 10 Rec Centers with mini grants totaling $8,000 for tools.

Philly Pumptrack and Parkside Evans Rec Center will use their grant for:

The Phillypumptrack is a natural surface bike park situated on Philadelphia Parks and Recreation land and stewarded by the Friends of Phillypumptrack. We use flat and round shovels, wheelbarrows, brooms, rakes, and machetes on a weekly basis to keep the track rideable and safe for the public. We are a free volunteer run park, open Tuesday - Saturday, noon-6pm May - Oct. where visitors can access bikes and helmets (also free of charge) to learn bike handling, bmx and dirt jump skills. The dirt surface of the track and ongoing storm water management require weekly hand maintenance. Every Wed May - October we run volunteer Dig Nights where youth and families work on and learn about natural surface tracks, rain gardens, and overall storm water management. The tools are critical to our weekly maintenance and to keep the track open and available to the public. We have a beginner, and advanced pumptrack and a set of beginner, intermediate and advanced dirt jump lines.
